About Nathaniel

I am a college student in my second year of studying mathematics. I have gotten a 4.0 in every math class I've taken, and I can help with subjects anywhere from basic arithmetic to calculus. I'm skilled at explaining tricky concepts in ways that any level can comprehend. Along with that, I try to make the learning experience as fun as possible! It's great to see the excitement a student has when they finally crack a difficult problem.

I love getting students excited about math. I think too often students believe they hate math, when in actuality they just don't like the feeling of not understanding something. Math can be really fun once you get the hang of it!

Teaching appealed to me for a number of reasons. One, it helps me solidify the material that I have already learned. Two, it is extremely rewarding helping students gain more confidence in math. Three, it is a great side gig to pay for classes and textbooks.

I have taken a number of math classes at Shoreline Community College. This includes pre-calc 1&2, calculus 1-3, and physics. Along with preparing me for explaining high-level mathematical concepts, these classes also gave me a chance to get extremely confident in basic algebra and geometry.

About the lesson

I first like to get a feel for where the student is in their math understanding. I can usually get a sense of what the student needs help with after a few minutes of talking and practice problems.

I then guide them through some problems, either provided by their homework or by myself. Once they get the hang of a concept, I have them explain it to me. Teaching is the best way to learn!
