About Melissa

Hello,

I am a full time college student majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I have a strong math background. I already currently work at my college campus as a math tutor. This has enabled me to develop quality teaching skillas and helped me be able to adjust to each individual students needs. I am able to put my problem solving abilities to use in order to figure out a way to best understand the subject manner to the student in a way that they can understand.

I am a bit of a perfectionist and an extremely hard worker. I have a passion for math and I truly enjoy doing it. I feel that this helps shape me into a good tutor as I love helping other students to understand what they are struggling with and hopefully be able to see the real life benefits of understanding the material. I hope to maybe even inspire others to see the beauty in math and enjoy it as well.

I have an extensive math background and a solid understanding of the materials. Math has always been my best subject and I geniunely enjoy doing it; this passion, I feel, improves the quality of my tutoring. I already currently work as a math tutor at my college campus which has given me an arsenal of tools to utilize when I am assisting a student.

About the lesson

I first like to sit with the student and look over the material they are learning in class and find out what they are struggling with. From there I like to ask specific questions to better understand what exactly about the material is acting as a road block and causing them to struggle with the work. From there I start to break down the processes and concepts into their simplest form to form a clearer picture of what work is required for the problems. I make sure to frequently check in with the student during this process and make sure I have not lost them in the explanation. If I see that they are still struggling to understand the material, I will reevaluate and find an alternate way to explain the material in a way that may make better sense to them.

I have worked with a variety of students in different courses who have different issues with material. I can teach material from basic mathmatics to basic algebra to calculus one.

I would say that the student should sit down and write out what exactly they are having issues with and why. I would also include their learning style. The more information I have up front about how the student learns best and their specific issues the better I can personalize a lesson that will work best for them.
