About Karen
As a former teacher, I understand the rigorous standards that the schools and state have set on students. I want to help students one on one to achieve their goals and create a deeper understanding that is not possible in a classroom setting. My passion is for helping students learn as much and as best to their ability.
I have 6 years of classroom experience. I have 3 years’ experience in elementary classrooms. I also have 3 years’ experience teaching Special Education, Algebra I, and Geometry in a high school setting.
I love that moment when you have been working with a student and he/she gets a "light bulb" moment. Their face lights up and you know that they get it. That's when you know that what you are doing is making a difference. That's why I enjoy tutoring. It's much easier for students to get those moments and to get the understanding they need when it is taught one on one.
I am certified in Mississippi and Louisiana to teach K-6 all subjects, Mathmatices K-12, Reading K-12, and Special Education K-12.

During the first tutoring session, the student and I will get to know each other. I will also talk with the parents to get a feel on what they expect as an outcome of the tutoring. I will also administer some diagnostic test to see what grade level and/or standards that the student has already mastered for their grade level.
Depending on what the student needs, I develop a tutoring schedule and plan that will help the student achieve their goals.
If the student just needs help with homework, then we will skip the diagnostic testing and just focus on re-teaching the skills taught in class for that day/week.
