About Kayvon

Math is for everyone, and anyone can understand it with the right approach, coaching, and learning style! I have studied math for 10 years and have years of experience teaching university level students in upper level courses ranigng from basic calculus through non-linear differential equations and stochastic processes.

I started off by tutoring when I was an undergraduate myself. I took a break from teaching while I worked in industry, and then came back as a TA in my graduate work, and have also been working as a tutor throughout.

I have a bachelors degree and am finishing my masters degree in applied mathematics at CU Boulder. I focused on dynamical systems and chaos theory as well as stochastic processes and data modeling.

About the lesson

I find it helpful to spend 15 to 20 minutes discussing the students background in mathematics as well as their experience learning mathematics (has it been enjoyable and they want to get ahead or has it been anxiety producing and they want to feel more comfortable). After that I like to dive straight into the problem solving.

I have worked with college freshman with almost no background in mathematics who enrolled in rigorous calculus sequence with the ambition of becoming engineers, all the way up through beginning graduate students who needed a little extra explanation or a different view point.

Conduct a trial session to make sure you are on the same page in terms of learning style, or that the tutor can adapt to the way you understand new topics.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Come up with a specific set of goals that you would like to address, and think about what skills you currently possess that can help with these goals and what skills you think you will need to develop to achieve these goals.
