About Shankar

I am an experienced high school Math tutor in diverse subjects such as Calculus AP, Geometry, Trigonometry, Probability and Statistics. I have helped students improve their grades by upto 2 letter grades within half a semester. I work as hard as my students to ensure that they are successful by focusing on the fundamentals. I have wide ranging experience, so I can customize my tutoring to the student’s learning style. I include customized exercises to emphasize and strengthen weak spots.

I have a Master’s in Computer Science from Stanford University and I have worked in the high-tech industry for over 30 years in Engineering. My work experience is in Unix Systems, Python and C.

I offer a free evaluation session to ensure that there is a good fit. I provide flexibility for students to contact me outside of tutoring sessions for help.

Math and Physics are my favorite subjects. It gives me great pleasure to help students overcome the fear and perceptions of difficulty and come to enjoy these subjects. Each student learns differently and I tailor my style to help them develop his/her fundamentals and analytical skills. This enables the student sto handle more challenging topics as they advance in their school curriculum.

I started volunteering as a Math Olympiad teacher when my daughter was in primary school. I have volunteered off and on during the course of my career. Once I retired, I started tutoring students in the San Jose school district. I find it extremely rewarding.

I have a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from India, and a Masters in Computer Science from Stanford University. I have done many Math and Science courses in the course of my studies. More importantly, they are still fresh as I continued to utilize them during the course of my carreer in engineering. I have been tutoring high school students in the San Jose area in AP Calculus, High School Math and Geometry.

About the lesson

I offer a free evaluation session where I get to understand the student and the student gets to do the same. I touch on subjects like their career interests at that point in time, and their interests in other subjects such as arts and sports. This helps build rapport and confidence in the student that I have their interests at heart and I can help them succeed. It also enables me to feel confident that I will be able to help the student succeed.

I worked with high school students in the San Jose area. These are students who will be the first in their family to attend college. They lack support for this level of advanced math and physics at home, however, they are extra motivated and extremely bright. So it is very rewarding to see them improve their grades in high school and get a better shot at college.

Perfect! Mr. Shankar Iyer is very patient and easy to work with. No matter what day of the week, he is always willing to help even when it is not during the tutoring session and will get back to you the next day. He is very thorough with his teaching by going through plenty of examples to make sure that students understand the concepts well.
