About Larry

Students have told me that I explain Math concepts very clearly, and can identify and address specific areas that they are having trouble with.

I try to help students see Math as a broad set of patterns, rules, and processes rather than disjointed techniques to memorize.

With over 18 years of teaching Math at a Technical College, i have helped many students who said they "just didn't get Math" develop a firm understanding and more confidence than they had before

Sometimes a Math course can be an obstacle for a student who does very well in other courses. Reducing that barrier is enjoyable.

I enjoy seeing students, especially those who might have had trouble with Math in the past, get more comfortable using Math.

For students who had no prior problems with Math, and feel that they might have hit a "ceiling" now, helping them break through an obstacle or two is rewarding.

After working in manufacturing for several years, I decided to become a teacher.
I had been a tutor during my college years, and enjoyed helping other students, and have always tried to help others as they learn more about Math.
I realize that learning Math is as much about learning as it is about Math. Understanding new Math topics will help you learn about other topics that will help in your career growth.

I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and have taken several graduate level Math courses. I have been teaching Math at Waukesha County Technical College since 2001.
Topics included Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, as well as Math related to financial applications.

About the lesson

Identify their reason for asking for tutoring
Define the goal of the tutoring
Observe current performance
Meet with the student, coach them along their learning path, and be available for help between meetings

Students in a wide variety of programs, covering almost all of WCTC's program areas.

Find someone who will focus on what you're having trouble with, explain and clarify it for you, and encourage you to keep working through the difficult spots.
