About Kaiya

Hi there! I know that math can be difficult, but I believe that getting to know students and connecting their interests to what they're learning is an excellent way to help them understand, and that's exactly what I plan to do.

For me, math can be very fun when you understand how to do it. I love helping people in general, and it's always satisfying to see someone get excited when they finally understand.

I did colorguard throughout high school (and still do in college), and my freshmen teammates always told me that I was a good teacher and that they looked up to me. Once I got to college, my first major was Computer Science, but I noticed that I enjoyed my math classes much more than my computer science classes. I remembered how good it felt to teach my teammates in high school and to be a role model for them to look up to, and I decided that I wanted to give students, especially ones without someone to look up to, a chance to have someone who truly cares about not only their academic lives, but also their lives in general.



I am a sophomore Mathematical Sciences major at McNeese State University with a concentration in Mathematics Education, Grades 6-12. Before that, I was majoring in Computer Sciences. Between both of these majors, I have taken plenty of math classes and still have plenty more to go.

First, I get to know students by asking some questions about themselves and learning about their interests. Then, I see if there's anything that they already understand or feel comfortable with doing regarding the subject and try to build off of that. 



As of March 2021, I have only taught high school colorguard. I am currently looking for experience in teaching math to students.
