About Jax

I enjoy seeing my students figure things out and recognize their true aptitude. I have a huge amount of SAT/ACT test prep material for my students, and plenty of experience with subject tutoring.

I have been a peer tutor since middle school, but was first paid to teach by an agency after being recommended by a friend in 2020.

I excelled in math through high school and college, and received a BA in Physics from Kenyon College in 2019. In 2021, I was thoroughly trained to be a Test Prep tutor by a highly competitive and popular tutoring agency for whom I also did subject tutoring. I have since pursued a personal tutoring business endeavor, doing both test prep and subject tutoring.

About the lesson

Before digging in, I like to get to know a little bit about the student and what they like to do in and outside of school. It is easier to relate concepts to a student if we can draw comparisons to things in their real life.

For subject tutoring, I ask my students to provide me with as much of their material from school as they can, and then go over their homework with them, stopping for mini lessons on new or challenging concepts. I make sure to keep up with students' big assignments or test schedules so that we can make the biggest impact possible on their grade.

For test prep, I start by having students take a preliminary test to determine their biggest strengths and weaknesses. Then, we make a schedule depending on how much time we have, usually starting out slowly to focus on content review as much as possible before bringing on a rigorous course of practice tests.

I have worked with high school students of varying age and ability. Some have excelled easily, and others have struggled to overcome their challenges, but all of them have told me that I've helped them with their grades and their confidence.

Find someone who makes you comfortable and encourages you to find your potential. You get out of tutoring what you put in, but only if your tutor holds up their end of the bargain.

One of my students improved his grade in math so much that he was able to take his pick from his top three schools!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should spend time deciding exactly how to frame their questions. Which concept is giving them trouble? Have they consulted their textbook?
