About Seth

I am a student of the game and three time NCAA Division One National qualifier, and a former Division I College team captain. I was able to achieve this, as an unrecruited walk on, not with spectacular athletic ability, but by clear eyed appraisal and continuous improvement. I continue to grow as a competitor long after many of my peers with more impressive backgrounds at the High School level stopped improving. I continue to compete and train in BJJ and coach wrestlers and MMA athletes.

My approach to coaching is consultative. I study athletes recorded competition, discuss tape with the athlete, provide written assessments, and tailor sessions to provide the best value for the athlete. In addition to rapid improvement, the athlete will develop the ability to analyze their own performance. This is an important life skill with applications beyond wrestling and critical to high-level wrestling performance.

A successful wrestler needs more than a grab bag of technique. A wrestler needs technique that fits together within an overarching strategy. I enjoy it when an athlete gains a greater understanding of how things 'work' in wrestling.

I am a former Division I wrestler and three-time DI national tournament qualifier for Appalachian State University. I continue to train and compete in Brazillian Jui Jitsu. I have been coaching privately and on a volunteer basis for twenty years.

I prefer review video of the student in competition. I develop a coaching plan based on providing technical tools to maximize the wrestlers existing strengths and reduce exposure caused by weaknesses.

My approach is to provide targeted coaching providing techniques tailored to the athlete and that fit together as part of a match plan to maximize return on investment for the athlete.
