About Gloria

I have an atypical teaching philosophy, which is exactly what the doctor ordered for students in need of history help. Too often, students think that they are bad at history because they are not good with dates.

My responsibility is not to teach dates and names, but rather to teach students how to think.

As a member of "generation z," I am comfortable with technology and use a variety of digital tools. Your student will strengthen their history skills and learn how to think critically using relevant films, living history, and finding the history that engages them.

I have six years of experience in award-winning historical documentary film-making. I am a national medalist at the National History Day competition and a five-time qualifier.

A holder of an associate's degree, I am in the junior year of my social studies education degree through Baylor. I have two years of experience tutoring in pairs and I have experience and training in teaching English learners.

I enjoy the opportunity to be the educator that students remember as the one who recognized their potential. I do not believe in lost causes, and I look forward to helping kids believe in themselves.

My passion for education started in school when I created documentaries. I strove then as I do now to create lessons that any age group can understand. My priority is making sure everyone gets the education they have a right to.

I am a junior at the Baylor School of Education with countless volunteer tutoring hours under my belt.

About the lesson

The first step is always getting to know a student. Establishing a comfortable atmosphere makes learning easier faster. In this process, I gauge where my student is and how far their goals are. I also access their preferred learning style so that I can shape future lessons around it.

I have primarily worked with kids of lower socioeconomic status. I have never had a student who couldn't do what they need to. It was only a matter of them knowing that they could.

What does history mean to you? Is it all dates and the faces of dead people who don't matter to you? Chances are, half of the work will be reframing what you expect from being a history student. That's where I come in.
