About Patrick
Hi! I'm Mr. Fager. I'm currently in my second year of teaching history at the middle school level. I was a Special Education para before that, so I have knowledge in lots of different areas. I specialize in U.S. History and Ancient History.
With many years in a school setting working as a para and teacher, I have lots of experience in helping students one-on-one and in small groups. Although I am certified in both Social Studies and Science, Social Studies is my preferred subject and area in which feel most comfortable. I love seeing students succeed and one of my favorite things is seeing that "light bulb" go off when something finally makes sense.
I began my school work as a para with the Special Education department. After a couple of years in that position, I enjoyed my job so much that I decided to go back to school to earn my teaching certification. After a two-year program, I began teaching in 2021.
My undergraduate degree is in History and Music, and my teaching certification is based in Social Studies content.

First, I like to get to know the student and make a connection. I firmly believe in the saying that no significant learning happens without a relationship.
Next, I ask questions to assess the student's needs. I need to find out exactly what they need assistance with in order to create a plan for working the student.
After making the plan, I implement it with the student. It is important to assess progress as we go to determine if the material is being learned and retained.
As a Special Education Para, I worked directly with students who had learning deficits and disabilities, and as a general education teacher, I work with students who have a wide variety of abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles.
Be sure to find someone who has experience with the material.
Find a tutor with a well-rounded perspective of history; make sure he/she/they is free from bias.
Know what specific area you need help in. Not all Social Studies/HIstory teachers are familiar with every time period and place.
