About Scott
I am currently pursuing my PhD in philosophy at Binghamton University, where I work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the philosophy department. Previously, I worked as a tutor for C2 Education teaching SAT/ACT prep, AP history curricula, and college essay writing, among other things. I primarily tutor history, but am qualified to tutor other humanities- and social sciences-related topics as well.
I love showing students how fascinating and important subjects such as history and government are, and I take great pleasure in making such subjects both relevant and fun.
My long-term goal is to become a professor, and so gaining experience as a teacher seemed to be a natural step towards that. Teaching people in my areas of interest has also come quite naturally to me anyway, which further encouraged me to pursue it professionally.
I worked as a Teacher Apprentice at my college, and in that capacity helped college students during my office hours with the class, especially when reviewing before tests.

My first step is to establish the student's personal goals for their own learning outcomes, and then to get an idea of what kind of learner the student is so that I can tailor my teaching style to them.
No question is a silly question when the goal is to truly learn. That being said, tutoring something like history is not just a matter of making sure a student memorizes a series of facts: it's much more about helping the student to see with a historical perspective and to understand the present as well as the past in its historical context.
