About Stephanie

Hello! I am a life-long educator with a passion for working with English Language Learners. I worked on the border of Thailand and Myanmar with migrant refugees as a teacher, reading coach, and teacher trainer for years. I absolutely love connecting with kids and getting to know them as learners and individuals. It is such a joy helping students reach their fullest potential! I also have two young children who love to read and are currently learning Thai and Chinese.

I work to match my teaching style to my student's learning style. Learning should be enjoyable and productive. While teaching, I like to praise my students so they know what they are doing well and then provide them with practice in areas they need to improve. I am meticulous in my planning so that my students can get the most out of class.

About the lesson

I like to work to build a good repore with a new student so that they feel comfortable with me. A comfortable student is more likely to retain what they are learning and take risks in class. I then work to find their zone-of proximal-development. I want to know exactly where they are in their learning journey so that I can help them take the next step with confidence. Once I know their strengths, I can help them work on areas they need to improve. I make sure I praise their progress and give them specific, positive feedback. I take maticulous notes after class to ensure that my next class with the student will be even more productive and enjoyable than the last.
