About Stuart

Hi! I'm currently a graduate student in history with teaching experience looking to help you understand history (and history essays). I've taught undergraduate courses in history for the past four years, and I'm currently in the process of being published.

History is one of those interesting subjects that seems to hit on everything but nothing all at the same time, and it's what draws it to me most of the time. Effective articulation, solid thinking, and diverse perspectives make it really complex to understand. Hopefully I can help you harness history to get you through class *and* help you as an individual!

Personally, I study the Cold War and the ways "progress" effect modern society, especially the arms race and scientific warfare. While I focus a lot in recent history, I think it's important to know a little of everything to help us think about the world we live in. I'm more than happy to help and hope I can make you appreciate history!

I started my first year of graduate school without any teaching experience (I just used it to pay the bills). Then, I realized I started getting better at it. It makes it easier when you show investment in your own students and make the material matter to them, and I think sometimes history teachers can struggle with that.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees in history (currently working towards my PhD). I've also worked as a teaching assistant in multiple survey courses at a large university leading discussion sections about material, grading exams, and teaching students on myriad topics from American and world history.

About the lesson

Getting to know students and what they know, building a plan of study around them, and helping them in the areas they need most (content, writing skills, etc.). I want to make sure it's the most effective experience for the student.

Exclusively college students, but definitely willing to help anyone that needs help! It'll be a learning experience for us both, but I'm looking forward to helping.

Find someone that won't bore you and cares about your learning just as much as the material.

I was recently defended my master's thesis, and passed with flying colors, so that was great!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I wouldn't say you need to think through any questions before asking them. No question is a bad one! Even if it were, it leads to a great conversation.
