About Amelia

I hold a Master's degree in Secondary English Education M.S. plus a B.A. in English/Art with 25 years of teaching inner-city students from all over the world, including ESL, special education to honors. I was a Master Teacher who trained novice teachers. Besides that, I am a professional writer, investigative reporter, and published poet.

In other words I am well-qualified, trained and experienced to teach.

If you are having a difficult time steering through your English classes, there is a good chance I could help you. I love to share the joy of reading. I diagnose your strengths and weaknesses, then go from there. I am passionate about the basic skills for a good foundation.

I am really good at teaching English skills. Learning can be fun! Simply put, there is great joy in teaching.

I started teaching when I was very, very young. To be exact, I was only in the seventh grade. Later, I taught HS English for 25 years. 🤩 So, by now, I must be pretty good at teaching. Right? There is only one way to find out. 😊

I am a professional writer. That means I actually got paid to write. I've written for a major metropolitan daily, a trade publication, and a weekly. I wrote a book on the Federal Reserve so I know how to do research on a topic I once knew nothing about. I mean zip, nothing. By the way, I love to do research. If you learn that skill you can do anything. No joke. Knowledge is power. Seriously.

About the lesson

Well, first thing is first. So, of course we have a friendly talk. I want to learn about my student's goals. What do you want to learn? Do you have a big test looming over you? I ask. Then I learn about your interests. This is important for blossoming readers and writers.
