About Hala

Hi Everyone, my name is Hala! I'm 25 and I have a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine. I just completed my first year of law school at USD. I currently tutor online and in person. I was an A student in high school and college, and now you will be too! I have been tutoring students in English and Writing for over seven years. I am passionate about teaching students to articulate their thoughts in an organized and concise manner. I truly want to see my students succeed, whether its getting an A, getting into the college of their dreams, or getting the job they've always wanted. I am patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. I know writing can seem hard and intimidating, but it doesn't have to be! I help students take the challenge of writing and turn it into their secret weapon.

In high school, as a member of the National Honors Society, I tutored students in English, Spanish, and History. I tutored three days a week, for four hours each day. However, my true super power has always been writing! I stopped tutoring in Spanish and history and focused solely on tutoring in writing. In college, I helped high school students work on personal statements and papers for their English class. I also helped my friends with their college papers and resumes. Soon I became my classmates' go-to tutor for all papers, applications, personal statements, you name it! In the process of tutoring other students, I have come up with a fool-proof method for writing creative, memorable, and impressive works of art. I can help you brainstorm, outline, edit, and perfect any essay, research paper, personal statement, etc. I look thoroughly through your writing, provide comments, and make corrections. Most importantly, I make sure to talk you through mistakes and help you sharpen your writing skills. I will teach you all my tips and tricks, as well as make guides for you to take home for reference.

I got started teaching in high school for the national honors society, then tutored my way through college, and now I tutor everything from reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, writing college papers, writing bachelor's or graduate program applications.

About the lesson

Typically I would break down what my student wants to achieve, then I would explain the related questions and see if my student has questions, then I would have my student apply the material through homework or sample questions, lastly I would send the student a guide to keep handy to review later or take out when my student needs a refresher.

I mainly work with high school students, college students, and people applying to college or graduate programs.

I would tell the student to ask for the tutor for examples of ways the tutor has helped other students, the tutor's method of teaching, and to check the reviews of the tutor.

A recent event I was fond of is when a previous student called me to let me know she got into the program of her choice at the school of her choice, because I was able to make her personal statement stand out from the crowd.

Details

My standard pricing system is $40 per hour. I prefer meeting online but I can also meet in person at a library or a starbucks. As far as cancellations, I require a 2 hour notice.
