About Kourtney

Artworm is a source for parents to utilize to better their child’s reading in a creative way. Working in conjunction with “Outschool” online as well as independent, the target audience for the lessons ranges from Grade 2-8. Some children experience frustration when it comes to reading be that from lack of interest, lack of focus or various other issues that may hinder progress. Knowing that reading and comprehension can be difficult, Artworm’s objective is to help children retain what they have read by first practicing reading at a pace that works best for them. Once the reading is complete, we review by way of question and answer with artwork.

The ultimate goal is to make reading and comprehension enjoyable. In addition, having a child feel confident about what they have read and practiced is a projected outcome. Of course this process may not be something that will be used as the child grows in their own individual learning abilities. This process is to help them visualize what the have read and increase their mental recall on important points of the reading.

About the lesson

First, parents/guardians will fill out the student profile found here: (concealed information)

This will help tutor get a better idea of what the student’s reading level is as well as any other information they think is relevant to the tutoring lesson.

The process involves asking the student simple questions about the story we just read. For example, ‘Who is the main character in the story? Where does our story take place? How did the character feel at the end of the story?’ Keeping the questions simple will lesson the frustration that sometimes occurs when a child doesn’t understand or remember. At times additional help will be given from the tutor if needed. An individual’s way of comprehension shouldn’t be limited to a single way of learning. Artworm adds depth and creativity to what abilities have already been instilled with each child.

By the end of each one hour tutoring session, we will have a story board about the subject we just read. At times we use different form of art media to make the experience fun and creative such as crayons, markers and color pencils. Additionally, the student will be left with confidence and understanding of what they have read during the lesson and enjoyed their time while doing it.
