About Peter
Serious painting begins with the truth. Some people can't handle the truth. I emphasize drawing, and "seeing" like an artist, not just looking like one. The less .edu you have had, the better. You need common sense, sensitivity, humour, and a trust of your own instincts. These are squelched in today's schools, from pre-K through college. We will work afternoons on a large ranch, some 40 miles from Santa Fe. Bring food & water. I primarily paint landscape in watercolor & egg tempera; but can help with oil or acrylics, which are easier for beginners. Observing the self-indulgent directions of contemporary "art", I know the world needs more common-sense artists.

If the student fits into my program, I emphasize drawing. It is the foundation. I can guide students through technical processes, but the best artists find their own way of working. My great uncle Andy used to say, "Don't take painting classes, they just teach tricks & traps."
Mostly semi-professional artists, but it depends on the individual.
If you like the disciplined directions my family and I have taken in painting; and if I can connect with you personally, this could be very beneficial to your work.

Am I just looking for short-cuts? Do I realize that being an artist is far more than technical protocol and "expressing myself"? Real artists live every moment observing as a painter.
