About Alina

My process is intuitive and focuses on the process and not the end product. I find this is an effective way to get enjoyment out of learning art and it never fails that the end results are surprising and satisfying.

Taking the intimidation out of art and providing confidence to students so they want to keep playing. I believe art is about experimentation, serendipity and exploration.

I am a self taught artist but have been a student of interior design, volunteered as an art docent in the TUSD for 12 years (k-5) and use art as a form of self therapy and balance. I've worked with almost all mediums including water color, acrylics, guache, pastels, inks, collage, encaustic.

I have 3 children now ages 21, 18 and 15 and found my love of teaching when I started volunteering as an art docent for Torrance Unified School District. Also enjoyed teaching art to my girl scout troop of 10 years.

Self taught and drawing, painting since I was a child. Student of interior design at UCLA which I put into practice as a hobby. Volunteered as an art docent with TUSD for 12 years teaching kids K-5. Student of many well know artists over the past 20 years - mostly in the areas of intuitive painting, art journaling, etc.

About the lesson

Understand their skill (or lack thereof), their reservations and overall attitude about calling themselves and artist. Everyone can be an artist by the way!

Mostly children however in recent years have been putting on gatherings with girl friends where we art-journal which we use a form of therapy and self expression...with great results.

My focus is on building confidence, experimentation and process and not so much the end result. I believe we are all capable of copying work (there is no such thing as original thought afterall) however the real challenge/goal is in finding your own voice...so that someone says, that looks like something YOU created. Less focus on art that goes on the wall and more focus on enjoying the process...most of my students are surprised at the end results exceeding their expectations.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be able to articulate the following,

(1) Focus - end product versus process

(2) Medium - what supplies, materials do you have

(3) Structure vs abstract. - do you want to paint lanscapes or play with collage? Pencil drawing? Abstracts?
