About Oding

I absolutely love art! I have been creating art for over 50 years. I have been teaching art in private schools in Oakland, and Berkeley for the past twenty years. I have taught students from K -12, as well as adults. Needless to say, I enjoy working with students of all ages. Ususally, I find out what the students want to achieve and I design a plan to meet their needs. I am willing to provide references from former students if needed. Although, my mother was a teacher and an administrator for 39 years in the bay area, it was a friend who talked me into teaching 20 years ago. Watching my mother, I knew that teachers worked very hard, and received low pay, so teaching, was not my first choice. However, teaching children and watching them grow, makes it all worthwhile.

I have been creating art for over 50 years. I have drawn and painted portraits of people, as well as their pets during that span. I have participated in numerous art shows over the years. I have taught art to students K-8, as well as adults for twenty years now. I have taught private lessons to youth and adults alike. In the 90's, I painted props for three superbowls.

About the lesson

I tell the student a little bit about myself and I show them samples of my work, which ususally puts them at ease and it also lets them know that I love art and I take it seriously. Next, I talk with a student to find out what their interests are. I ask them to share some of the art that they are most proud of, which we view and discuss together. I then put together a lesson plan and share it with the student and gaurdian if need be.

I have taught after school programs on the elementary school level for a number of years.

I have traveled to students homes, as well as done home teaching.

I taught an adult art class for 5 year, at Studio One Art Center in Oakland.

I have also taught adults on Saturday mornings at my current school.

Take time to look at the teachers work, and write down a couple of questions that you would like to ask ( him / her ).

Ask for references. ( Parents can help with this. )

Make sure that you get along with the person that is going to be teaching you.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What materials do I want to work with ?

What is the final result that I want.

Ask for appproximate timeline for aquiring results. Kids today are busy, so it is good to find out if they are willing (or able) to put in the necessary amount of time and effort to acheive the results that they are looking for.

Details

My classes are usually 90 minuets to 2 hours, once a week. My pricing is based on how many sessions the student signs up for. Sometimes, they want to check things out, before signing on long term. Other times students might just want help on a given project. So the price varys.
