About Esteban

Knowing how to use the tools of artistic expression to express ideas, emotions, or thoughts is a very powerful communication weapon. My way of teaching takes the artistic references that exist as a fundamental basis for learning so that my students know what has already been done. From there, together, we will look for unique and individual ways of artistic expression through painting. This with a little imagination will help us to paint new worlds.

Growing up I was a very introverted kid. From my first encounter with art I knew it would be the perfect medium to express my feelings and thoughts. Learning to use the techniques used in the visual arts helped me to materialize what was in my mind through graphic elements of artistic expression and communication such as painting. I enjoy teaching others to visualize and then paint what is in their minds or in front of them as a communication tool in a way that is not only exiting but also liberating.

I began teaching as a recent graduate in Cuba with indiviudal students of all ages in their homes and in my studio gallery with groups of local neihborhood children.

I have a BFA in Visual Arts, a certificate in illustration, and extensive experience producing independent artwork and selling and showing my work in both New York and in Cuba. My training is primarily focused on painting, and I have experience with a great variety of media such as acrylic, watercolor, oil paints, gouache, and ink, as well as experimenting with non-conventional materials and found objects.

I taught art before both for children and adults. I own a studio gallery in Havana, Cuba where I hosted classes every Saturday for children and teenagers of the local community. Also, I aim to stay current by regularly participating in workshops and exhibits to which I am invited at institutions such as the Museum of Art for Children, Art Basel, and the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

About the lesson

First of all, I like to get to know the student. I ask what they want to accomplish by taking my class, their interest and prior experience in the arts, and their overall aspirations. This is very important since it will help me adjust the classes to their expectations and better determine the direction we'll be going in together. After this, I design a personalized plan for each student.

I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults pf all backgrounds, mostly at the beginner and intermediate levels. Then I help them to reach the level they are willing to.

I can teach classes in English and in Spanish.

I believe that the key to a successful learning experience is finding the right person. That is why I advise students to communicate their specific needs and goals to the teacher in as much detail as possible, so that together you can determine if it is a good match. Learning painting is a journey in which the student will grow on a personal level, and this process should be a joyful one.

I am especially proud of the work I did at a live event organized by Team Bacardi in New York. At this event I had to create fourteen live watercolor portraits of VIP guests. Opportunities like this allow me to expand my technical knowledge and participate in artistic exchanges that enrich both my work and my teaching.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are students who are looking to enter an art school for academic type training, others, for example, are just looking to perfect their realistic painting technique while others want to explore their creative potential and may benefit from less structured technical training.

Some questions I would ask for further understanding of what I am looking for as a student are: At what skill-level am I? In an average. How many classes do I need to get from point A to point B?

Details

I have a basic fee per hour for classes online and for inperson classes. While I will consider shorter lessons depending on student needs, I usually recommend that each lesson be two hours long because it takes time to learn and practice art techniques.

I offer discounts for students that purchase five classes or more.
