About Dan

I have graduated from the National Arts Academy in Bucharest in 1985. I have been teaching and practicing artistic ever since, over 30 years. Currently I teach at the Parsons School of Design.

I have the ability to explain and demonstrate painting and drawing issues in simple and effective ways, using structural approaches for attaining the goal.

Opening a new world for my students and getting them involved.

I started teaching right after graduation, as the contract between me and the Academy stipulated. I continued, with a short interruption, until today.

My original training was painting. I graduated from the National Art Academy in Bucharest, Romania. Over the years, I taught many types of classes, for all age categories, mostly in the US. I specialized, besides painting and drawing, in fashion design (I currently teach it at Parsons), graphic design, and fabric print design.

About the lesson

I assume that the student's goal is attaining professional level; that means freedom in using means of self-expression. I review the existing work, if there is any, and I provide an assessment of it. Then, according to the student's needs, I sketch a plan of development, which may include, among other issues, sketching from nature, conceptualized drawing, color exercises and applications, oil and acrylic techniques, and, if the student agrees, digital exercises for rapid development of the sense of composition (layout)

At the beginning, children 8-13 years old, then high-school students, children again (Lycee Francais NY), and finally adults (Parsons, The Art Institute NY, Gibbs College). I also had private students, between 12 and 75 years old. Currently I have two students of around 65...

Details

I charge $40 for a session which lasts more than an hour, around 70 minutes. If students approach me as a group, the price increases incrementally; for two students, there will be $50 per session $65 for three.
