About Jeri

I am most inspired by the sharp beauty of creation. My subject matter usually ends up being a single flower, field of riotous color blooms, or a dramatic landscape, whether mountain peaks and valleys, or gushing springs and coastal magnificence. When the colors come together and capture what my eyes previously took in, that moment is my gratification.

Oli is my medium of choice. The pigment provide rich yet subtle color variations, and it dries slowly, enabling me to keep "pestering " the blend of wet paint for hours, sometimes days. I do enjoy working with watercolor for smaller projects or quick sketches in my journal.

Pointillism or stippling is another favorite of mine, capturing the details of birds and other subjects. You can find me most days teaching homeschoolers, teens, or individuals in many different mediums. I also teach acrylic classes in my studio or in the public.

I have been drawing and painting since I was a little girl. I've painted murals in a church nursery and a learning center in Boise where I was employed. I was also fortunate to be able to use my talents in creating various learning materials, curriculum, and pieces for the public.

I love to paint and how the paint flows on the canvas; picking up a brush and letting it create movement on the surface. When my clients express emotion and pleasure over the end results, I am most humbled and blessed. I find great joy in knowing their piece may become a gift to a grandparent or hang in their home. My reward comes in sharing my talent and time - to see a student, young or older, pick up a pencil or paintbrush and be excited about the possibilities!

Creating relationships with people and organizations provided me the opportunity to teach in Christian schools, homeschool groups, and in selling my art work and this led to paint classes to the public as well as individualized instruction.

I have taken various courses and college classes to grow as an artist, mostly self taught.

About the lesson

Getting to know the student(s) first to see what areas of art they might be interested in, seeing examples of any previous drawings or paintings, so I know what instruction and direction to go with them. Once that is determined, I discuss schedule and costs and get started!

Homeschoolers, friend's children, private lessons for adults, teenagers, ages 7 to 75.

Ask to see the teacher's work? It may or may not be the student's style but it gives them an idea of the credibility of the teacher.

Ask how long they have been teaching? And to what age group? Some teachers are better with certain ages.

Maybe get to know the teacher to see if it will be a good fit.

Although not recent, I love Art in the Park and seeing all the creativity.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What interests the student about art?

To have an idea of what they are wanting to learn to do. Many times I find they are uncertain in what they want, so we work through that. Sometimes just sharing some of my work and other ideas helps them decide in what direction they want to go.

Are they committed and serious about learning?

Letting the art teacher know of any special needs that they may have.

Details

$10-$15 an hour of individual instruction and they acquire the necessary supplies for the medium. Sessions are an hour.

$25 per person for acrylic paint classes in my studio. If traveling, cost is $35.
