About Jay

My areas of expertise are painting:

Media: acrylics, watercolors

Subjects: landscapes, florals, birds

Surfaces: canvas, watercolor paper, rocks

I don’t normally have a preset program that I take students through, though that is possible. I prefer the student tell me what media they prefer and what kinds of subjects they want to learn to paint. We agree on an idea or picture to start with that’s commensurate with their skill level and proceed from there.

My specialty is landscapes, with decades of experience. I can teach color mixing, painting skies, clouds, mountains, trees, grass, rocks, how to get a sense of depth in your scene etc.

I have been enjoying painting more whimsical subjects recently, inc birds, cows and pigs.

People visit my booth at the local markets and see my art. Over the years as the quality of my work improved, people started asking if I teach lessons/classes. I feel like teaching something that I've had experience with comes very natural to me. I want to share the joy I've had in my experience with others.

I have approximately 20 years experience painting and doing crafts of all kinds. I have taken many hours of lessons and learned much from a local professional landscape artist. I have also engaged in many hours over the years of self study reading books and watching art videos either on YouTube or that I've bought.

About the lesson

Start small, easy and fun. Then as skills develop work on more complicated projects.

All ages and levels. I am a retired child/family therapist and have many hours experience doing art with children.

Make sure and check out their work and see if it is of the quality and style you are looking for. Also if fees seem high ask if there are other options, eg, group lessons.
