About Carolyn

private art instructor - I assist students in finding their creative motivation and passion in the arts by increasing their skill level and building a new approach to their personal expression.

I have a BFA and MA in the Fine Arts and Art Education

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I do not have a social network profile. I use email and texting to communicate to students. All lessons are treated with a personal and confidential approach.

I have been a student in the Fine Arts my entire life. I started painting in oil and watercolor when I was 7 years old. I started attending the University of Texas Fine Arts Department in the Saturday Morning Art Project when I was in the 7th grade (as a gifted student) until I graduated from high school. I received an art scholarship to attend the University of Texas. I earned my BFA from UT and a MA from the University of Houston Clear Lake campus.

I have a BFA and MA in the Fine Arts. I have taught painting and drawing lessons to adults and youth for over 20 years. Most of these classes have been in universities, public middle and high schools, art venues, art museums, and art associations/organizations. I recently started teaching in private homes when my family moved to the northeast.

About the lesson

Meet face to face first

Discuss the media of choice regarding any experience

Discuss the student's goals and financial status to pay for art lessons and ability to purchase materials, art supplies, etc.

Discuss and plan the location/home of the art lessons which includes any family members or friends that might be present in the home.

Discuss the importance of a solitary location where a calm and quiet environment is a priority.

Discuss that payment is due at the end of each class/lesson, a minimum of 2 classes is required for a 2 hour or 3 hour class. Student or parent of the student must sign a commitment. Cost of the lessons depends on the needs of the student.

Youth 9-17 years old

College students

Emphasis would be placed on the student's written list of priorities and goals for his/her learning experience and to identify the media of choice. Long term goals would also be discussed with the student. There would be a discussion regarding any challenges that the student might like to share. Finally, it is a priority that the location of any classes be selected for all classes (from the beginning) and an emphasis placed on a very calm, quiet environment with no or very limited distractions during the lesson(s). Multiple family members or friends present in the location might not meet the requirement of a calm and quiet environment.

I recently joined three Art Associations in 3 towns in MA. I enjoy meeting people and discovering the many art museums in my new state. I teach painting and drawing for youth and adults at the Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM). I teach adults from the Seven Hills Creative Minds project for adults with disabilities at the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) among other venues. I was teaching a class this past Saturday at the WAM and one of my students smiled and told me that he was really enjoying the art lesson for the first time since he has joined the class.

Details

For adults and youth (age 12 or older) with some but limited art experience, I charge $75.00 per hour.

For absolute beginners adults and youth, I charge $85.00 per hour.

Students confirm at least 2 lessons and any additional lessons when a date is selected to begin.
