About Carmen
Crooked Beauty is an art store and maker's space created with the desire to inspire.
I listen to what people want to make, and I get excited in helping them either create a project idea or in guiding them in a workshop setting.
I have taught art for the last 7 years; I've taught from kindergarten to adults, including special needs young adults. While my B.A. is in Communications, much of my research and academic work centered around arts in education. My own artwork has been shown around town, and I was co-designer of an interactive exhibit that lasted three years at the Museum of Art and History, in downtown Santa Cruz.

Firstly, I'll chat with them to loosen them up; we'll talk about art and artists, their aesthetic, and then we'll move into the lesson. What I teach depends on what they want to accomplish, and we start out with small steps towards that direction. I usually have music playing softly in the background to keep the mood light. I believe art is an exploration and want each and every student feel empowered by their own creativity.
