About Tanya

I am a certified K-12 Art Teacher who has 20+ years of experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels. I have a degree in art and a masters in Education and have taken 18 credits from Philadelphia University of the Arts. I started teaching private art lessons in the summers at the request of a couple families and have continued for the past 4 years. I have experience with drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramices and jewelry. I personalize the private lessons to fit the needs and passions of my students. Art excites me and challenges me and this is very apparent to all who know me.

I have a degree in Art and a Masters in Education. Beyond my Masters, I have completed 24 art credits at the graduate level from Philadelphia University of the Arts and earned a 4.0 gpa. I have 20 years experience teaching art at the High school, middle school and elementary level. I enjoy drawing, painting, metals and ceramics.

About the lesson

Prior to lessons, I like to ask students about their general interests to get to know them a bit. I also ask about their experience in art, their passions with art and what they would like to learn. This could also be achieved via a questionnaire.

I've mostly worked with young students, but I have had adult students also.

I would recommend starting out on the trial basis to see if it's a good fit for you or your child. For example, start off with three lessons, then see if you want to continue. As a parent and a teacher, I appreciate that both student and teacher need to feel confortable.

Perfect! Tanya is a great teacher, I feel that I'm learning a lot for a slow learner. I never realized how we use the color wheel and its impact on our art. She takes little things like how to hold the pencil when sketching to get different shades of grey, To someone as clueless as me to art she is a big help. Plus she is encouraging and patient, even when I'm late.

Perfect! Tanya was great. She understood quickly where I was in the study of art and began with the study of color. A series of events has interrupted our lessons but I look forward to getting back with her lessons.

Details

I charge $40 an hour for one student, and $50 for two students (I have taught sisters during the same time slot). The cost covers consumable materials such as paints, papers, canvas, etc. The cost also covers set up and clean up.

I provide all media and tools used during the lesson. If the student prefers a specific brand, I will ask that we use that brand during the lesson. Different brands can react very different so it would be to the student’s benefit to be consistent.
