About Lauralynn

I teach drawing and painting techniques to interested students 12-112 (if you are over 112, I'll do it for FREE - but I am going to ask you a LOT of questions on how you got there!)

I use time honored techniques, no gimmicks. My students are asked to take the assignments seriously. I will give 100% to you , you need to give 100% as well.

Take home Assignments may include watching films on artists or techniques, reading essays related to the goals of the lesson and drawing or painting in between sessions.

I love to see people meet their own artistic goals. I tailor my teaching to each individual and do many hours of materials gathering to fit the students interests and skill level.

I have been employed by the Chautauqua Institutions Special Studies teaching, drawing, painting and art history intermittantly for 15 years. I have taught individual students privately for 20 years.

I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA (BFA 1990 illustration/art history). I am a summer instructor at Chautauqua Special Studies, and former Curator/Director of Contemporary Art Gallery, Chautauqua, NY (2018-19) and Gallery Director at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Reading, PA (2010-18).

I have exhibited widely and hold exhibiting membership in the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) , Woman Made Gallery in Chicago and the Visual Arts in Chautauqua (VACI). I am currently splitting my time between Chicago, IL, Chautauqua, NY and Reading, PA.

About the lesson

I like to have a conversation with prospective students to see if I can create a lesson plan to help them meet their artistic goals. It is important that we both understand what the students reasons and goals for seeking instruction are so that they can be met.Once we know what the goals are, we can decide on the time, frequency and location of lessons.
