About Charles
Sharing my knowledge, skills and experiences with a student is satisfying and fulfilling. By introducing different fields of cartooning, illustration and commercial art I can help point that student toward their area of interest, hobby, pursuit or career.
I can introduce the student to the basics of cartooning, animation and illustration. However, caricature is my specialty and my livelihood. I would sign up for instruction in this field if it was included as a category. My services as a live caricaturist have included events of all types. My studio caricatures typically involve working from photos along with theme and background descriptions.
I am mostly a professional and seek to share my work and own school experiences with students. My teaching experiences have been mostly limited to caricature demonstrations at elementary and high schools.
I did have a brief stint as a Spanish teacher at Berlitz which I mention to accommodate LatinX students.
A cartooning course by mail from Continental Schools in Los Angeles.
An Associates Degree from the American Academy of Art. Chicago, IL. Courses included Life Drawing, Art Fundamentals, Illustration and Lettering & Design.
2D Animation classes at Columbia College Chicago.

My top approach consists of live demonstrations. These can include a caricature from a photo, a cartoon character or an editorial cartoon. I talk about the subject matter as I'm drawing and include information about my technique, process, background, etc.
I once was offered to teach a small group of five year olds for in along with a three week stint teaching boys ages 6-14 drawing at Rio Vista summer camp.
Draw and paint constantly. Have questions to ask. Ask to have your work critiqued and evaluated.
I was hired by Nike to provide caricature drawings of Chicago amateur and professional athletes for a temporary restaurant ad campaign known as a Take Over.
