About Jay

I was named "Best Surf Artist of the Decade" in 2010 by Brazil's premier surf magazine.

My art has been seen on the cover of 5 albums, including the bands Slightly Stoopid and Mishka. My art has been featured on TV multiple times and has live painted on stage with rockstars and exhibited artwork internationally.

I have expertise in painting and drawing in all mediums as well as business strategies for artists.

I've been painting and drawing my whole life.

My personal work is largely inspired by beach life, surfing, the ocean and outdoors. I also am known for my paintings of figures and my signature elongated style. However I am also very classically knowledgeable about realism and more traditional techniques.

I've been teaching and doing art for as long as I can remember. I've also been self-employed as an artist since the age of 18.

Bachelors in Arts with a concentration in illustration and minor in photography and graphic design.

I have been an artist, designer and photographer for my entire adult life.

I regularly coach creative professionals and have done workshops and public speaking about creativity, establishing an art career and painting technique.

About the lesson

When I get a new student I review their current work to gauge stylistic preferences and techniques. It's important to see where you are before going forward. Additionally, we will discuss what you want to achieve with our time together. For instance, do you want to work on blending and realism or would you prefer finding your own stylized technique? Do you want to learn color theory or just paint for the fun of it. After we discuss these basics, we will work one-on-one to improve knowledge, techniques and overcome obstacles.

I'm friendly and personable in my teaching style and I believe art should be fun.

Children from age 9-16, young adults and adults. I prefer students who really want to learn. I don't care the age nor the level of talent...all that matter is desire to learn and have fun with their art.

Details

I prefer to work in blocks of at least 2 hours. If you're serious about wanting to learn 2-4 hours per session is very helpful.

I am not going to be the "cheapest" but I will be the most qualified art instructor you will find on here.

I have a minimum of $200 per session and pricing is customized based on what you're lookign for. Longer term students who are ready to commit to their art will have more flexibility in pricing.
