About John

I specialize in the Art of Screen Painting. This art form started in Baltimore, Maryland in 1913. Discovering the concept of acting as a privacy screen to deter individuals from looking in your home, but you can see-out with no obstruction, enabled row house owners an idea that opened a whole new genre of Art. By the 1950's there were 300,00 of these painted screens on windows and doors creating an outdoor gallery of pure joy. My goal is to plant Screen Painting seeds for any age sharing the history, tools, and techniques to successfully create any design or size. The Magic of Screen Painting still lives on. Born and raised in Baltimore fuels my fire in this folk art enabling me to further my teaching skills. I have been a member of Young Audiences of MD, and roster member of MSAC (MD State Arts Council) as well as several associations with Art Galleries, Museums, Community Centers, Libraries, TV, Radio Podcasts, Newspapers and magazines, and Film.

I work with all ages between 7 & 70 and a certified Teaching artist with TAI in 21st Century learning and Common Core narratives creating residencies from 1st - 12th grade levels. Traveling through three States over these past years has helped to share the MAGIC with 1000's of people over the years. My mission; To Share the Joy & Magic of Screen Painting.

About the lesson

Learning a new art form needs to be created from observation, memory and imagination. The Art of Screen Painting is the perfect medium to connect.

Most Important, HAVE FUN!

Student's will visit the rich History of Screen Painting back to it's origins in East Baltimore in 1913.

Guiding you through with the tools and techniques we will engage in the learning process.

All of this contributes to joyful, creative, and an impactful learning experience you will take home with, Framed!
