About Zoya

I am a second-year medical school student, and I have completed a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry.

In college, I tutored for 2 years at the Center of Student Progress, a tutoring organization at my university. As a tutor, I received training on communicating with students and fostering independent learning.

I know how to harness independent learning in students. I don't just reteach what was taught in class. Instead, I will help you apply the material, so that it actually sticks. I can also help you develop study skills that you can use long after you're done getting tutoring from me.

There are many times in my life when getting tutored literally saved me and my grade. I want to help you in the same way that I was helped. I don't believe you need to pay thousands of dollars a month to get tutoring. Most often, you just need someone to help you change your perspective on the material.

Additionally, watching others grow and succeed is extremely fulfilling for me. Last year, I spent the entire spring semester at home instead of on campus, even though in-person class was back at my college. I did this because my brother needed some help in his studies, and instead of letting my parents pay thousands for a certified tutor, I took it upon myself to help him out. It was a major sacrifice, but seeing the growth in my brother was what fueled me.

I am passionate about tutoring, and by working with me, you WILL be successful. Join me, and let's succeed together! :)

I do strictly online tutoring.

I have been volunteering/working as a tutor on and off throughout my life.

I do not have a formal teaching degree. I am in medical school. However, I DO have prior tutoring experience, and academics has always been a big part of my life.

At Youngstown State University, I worked part-time as a peer tutor. That means that I tutored other college students. I tutored general and organic chemistry.

In high school, I volunteer-tutored other high school students in algebra and geometry.

These are general principles that I have when working with any new student!

1. Establish rapport.

--- Introduce myself and learn a little bit about the person that I'm tutoring!

2. Understand what you want out of our sessions.

--- What is your goal?

3. Understand the landscape.

--- What are the roadblocks/challenges that you face?

4. Design a roadmap to help you achieve your goals.

--- Are we meeting regularly? If so, how many sessions per week/month? What is our plan for each session?

At YSU, I worked with other college students. I only tutored in subjects that I had previously learned.

The students that I tutored in high school were Afghani refugee students. By working with me, they not only improved in their math classes, but they also improved their English by extension.

Look for someone who spends less time lecturing and more time helping you understand/learn the material.

Additionally, look for someone who will help you get the grade that you want. This is because sometimes, tutors will spend too much time lecturing you on topics that you know aren't high-yield on the test. So beware of that!
