About Roger

I'm a Biologist with a masters degree in Pathology. I started teaching High School Biology in 2010, and I have also taught College-level courses including Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology. In addition to English, I am a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, and I am also proficient in Spanish. My passion in life is to teach young people and help them discover the beauty and power of science and learning.

I enjoy so much about being a teacher. One of my great joys in life is to help my students learn. Those moments when I see a student grasp a complicated concept are special and extremely rewarding. I cherish the times I have been able to inspire and guide students on their paths toward higher learning and academic achievement. More than anything, I enjoy making the learning experience interesting and fun.

I have taught high school biology for several years, and college-level courses including Microbiology, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology.

I have also worked as a researcher in a Molecular Biology Laboratory developing techniques using DNA and RNA extraction, DNA and RNA electrophoresis, PCR, Sequencing, Microbiology techniques, and others.

About the lesson

Each time I work with a student I adjust my approach to suit the needs of the individual. Assessing their needs early in the process, allows me to tailor the best strategy for the student. Some students respond well to visual learning and for them, I might use powerpoints with a lot of images and diagrams. For the auditory learner, I might rely more on the textbook and engage the student in dialogue regarding the material. For students that absorb content through reading and writing, I might engage them in working on exercises and problem-solving. I find that there is always a winning strategy and learning-approach that will work well for each student. As I create a personalized program and strategy for each student, I like to review the entire materials as early in the process as possible.
