About Kollan

Graduated from University of California, Riverside in 2018 with a degree in Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology.

Received the Chancellor's Scholarship to attend UC Riverside

Conducted independent research projects for 4 years.

Served as editor, Associate editor, and Editor-in-Chief for UC Riverside Undergraduate Research Journal

President of a science outreach organization that provided afterschool tutoring for local high school students in underserved areas

I started teaching while in college as part of my community service requirements but soon realized that quality education was severely lacking especially in underserved areas and ran an afterschool tutoring program for disadvantaged high school students where they could get quality tutoring from college students.

I have extensive tutoring experience from running an afterschool tutoring program for underprivileged high school students while studying in college.

About the lesson

I like to asked increasingly advanced or difficult questions to see how indepth a student's knowledge is and to know which areas to focus on.

I've worked with a diverse array of students from high school to college. From high-performing schools to underfunded schools. From students with high ability to students who require additional support.

Look for a someone who is patient and willingly to explain concepts over and over again until you understand.

One of my students would constantly beat herself down because of her inability to understand mathematics. I worked with her, patiently explaining concepts over and over until she finally understood how to solve the questions. She passed her class and later graduated, and gave her a gift card as a thank you for helping her.

They should really think about about their abilties and be truthful about their weaknesses so that their teachers can fully understand how to help them.
