About Katy

I am a science major from the University of South Florida who started teaching high school chemistry in 2015. I have been rated as high effective every year as a teacher and was quickly asked to take over the AP Chem curriculum as well. As my students moved on they ofen returned for tutoring in physics, biology, algebra, trig, calculus.... and other math and science classes because of the way I was able to break down the material into analogies they could understand. I am extremely passionate about science and math and really enjoy sharing my love and understanding with as many students as possible.

My mom was a teacher and I always enjoyed teaching others in my classes when they needed help.

I am a certified teacher in the state of Florida with 5 years experience in the classroom but I have been tutoring since I was in high school myself and continued through college.

About the lesson

The first meeting i usually spend more time figuring out where they are with the material and what they like and don't like about what/how they are currently being taught. Depending on findings we will either review past material or move onto new material. I also like to talk with the oarent before and after to get an idea of what their goals are for their student and then share what I think the best course is moving forward. Of course everything is dependent on what the individual needs are: long term tutoring, enhancement, help before a test....

I primarily have worked with high school students but have also tutored several college and some middle and elementary students. I have also worked with a large number of English as a second language students.

We are here to help. If you don't understand something you should feel comfortable stopping the teacher to ask them to clarify or practice more. If you aren't comfortable with that then you must likely need a new tutor.

I had a student now in college tell me she was teaching other students in her chemistry class about one of my drawings I use to help them do unit conversions and they all come to her for help now.

How do they think they learn best? When did they feel like they were starting to get behind? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? What are some interests they have that they would like to have related to the subject?
