About Matt

One on one instruction that's catered to fit each individual student's needs. Able to instruct on vocals, guitar, drums, and engineering techniques. The lessons can take place in your own home or you can come to the studio!

Everything! I love the challenge of playing musical instruments and the fulfillment from seeing progress. Playing an instrument can build character and one's ability to think critically and analytically by applying learned information and putting it into practice. Music is a stress reliever for everyone and a tool to gain social skills as well. The ability to communicate one's feelings or emotions through an instrument is priceless. Anyone can learn with a little bit of committment and perserverence.

I began teaching as a supplemental income, but mostly because I enjoy music so much.

I have played professionally as a drummer for 17 years. I started private drum lessons at the age of 12 and played my first gig at age 17. My many years onstage and around other great musicians allowed my musicianship to grow. I began playing guitar at the age of 18 and now gig professionally, in addition to being a songwriter and engineer. I have also been a vocalist through it all, starting out as a back-up singer on the kit and then moving to front-man around the age of 21.

Each student is different, and therefore requires a different plan. The first thing is to layout the goals that the student has for his or her training. Are they looking to one day play professionally, are they looking to impress their friends and family, or are they simply trying to find an outlet for the stresses of daily life? The answer to the question, "Why are you taking lessons, and what do you want out of the lessons?" will set the foundation for their training.

Mostly novice to intermediate students on the guitar, and students anywhere from novice to advanced on the drum kit.

Find a teacher who you feel comfortable with, and that will be able to not only show you what to do on an instrument, but WHY you are doing it. Its one thing to learn how to play a song, but its better to understand the underlying theory of the instrument so that you can not only play anything, but understand why it works.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do they want to get out of their training? How dedicated are you willing to be to become proficient at an instrument? Also, are you looking to play for fun on your own, around the campfire, or become a gigging musician?

Details

Pricing is negotiable, pending if I have to travel to the student or if they come to the studio. I ask for 50$ per hour lesson for students who travel to the studio and 65$ per hour lesson to travel to the student. Once again, this is a negotiable price.
