About Anna
My name is Anna and I'm a qualified teacher of English and German. I come from Finland where I completed my four-year-long teacher training, which is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. During my studies I worked as an on-call substitute teacher in three different schools gaining lots of practical teaching experience. I'm no stranger to private tutoring either, as I have done it voluntarily ever since my high-school days. Having also taught English in China, Zambia and Papua New-Guinea, I have developed quite the array of teaching methods to fit each individual's needs regardless of their cultural or linguistic background. I am passionate about languages and teaching, which I have been told truly shows through in my teaching.

Apart from helping the learner understand and know the material, I find that my most important mission as a teacher/tutor is to motivate and encourage my students. Motivation is one of the main building blocks for any kind of learning, which is why I love to approach topics by looking at the interests of the individual learner and structuring the lessons around them. Creating a stress-free learning environment has been proven to enhance learning, so I like to keep things relaxed and informal - both the learner and the teacher should feel comfortable and safe during the lessons. Since language is at its nature alive and dynamic, I feel that learning them should reflect that; rather than sticking to just one method I like mixing things up to keep the learning stimulating and fun! Instead of only using ready-made books and worksheets, I also love making my own custom teaching materials to ensure that they are authentic and up to date. Lastly, I'm currently writing my Master's thesis about lexicon learning, so I have very specialized and helpful knowledge on this topic, should increasing your vocabulary be your wish!
