About James

I am a qualified and experienced primary-age teacher and tutor. Originally from New Zealand, I gained my qualification in Primary School Teaching there, through a Graduate Diploma course, after completing a degree in Biological Sciences. Since, I have worked for six years in schools in New Zealand, Berlin and London, teaching a range of ages from 5 to 13. I have also gained experience in private tutoring in London and Berlin, again teaching a range of ages, subjects and purposes - general classroom support and in preparation for examinations.

About the lesson

My style of teaching is relationship-based, fun and engaging. I have a strong belief that children learn best when they are in a trusting and stimulating environment, gained through positive relationships and open communication. I always focus on “teaching to need” - identifying and teaching the gaps in a child’s learning through ongoing observation, whilst also consolidating on prior learning.
