About Fiona

Hello! My name is Fiona, and I'm from the United Kingdom. I’m not only an experienced English teacher; I also work in publishing as a writer, editor, and picture researcher. Previous employers have included Oxford University Press, Panos Pictures and Heinemann Library. My hobbies include walking in the Cambrian Mountains, near my home in Wales, as well as art, taking photographs, and reading novels. I LOVE animals and our family has two cats and four rabbits. I also love travelling, and have visited many countries, including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Morocco, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, and China. I’m so excited to meet my students and learn all about their culture, work or studies, and interests.

About the lesson

I have over two years of online teaching experience, including adults and children of all ages and abilities. In addition to my Level 5 TEFL certificate, I have a Teaching Business English Certificate, and an MA in Creative Writing from Aberystwyth University.
I want my students to enjoy learning English, so I always tailor my lessons to suit their needs. My teaching style is student-centred; I strive to learn about each student’s interests, style of learning, strengths, and weaknesses, to ensure that they get the most out of their study time. I also have a holistic approach to my teaching; I not only focus on my student’s academic ability, but on their emotional and social wellbeing, so that they feel comfortable and secure in the classroom. In addition, I always encourage my students to think creatively, and critically about a subject or text, and its themes. This is so important in the 21st Century; it is not only beneficial to a student’s understanding, but improves their communication skills, as well as their self-confidence.

As a language student in French and Spanish, I can sympathise with how difficult and frustrating learning a language can be! It is important to practise your English a little every day. I can help you build your vocabulary bank, focus on grammar, practise pronunciation and allow you to tune in to the sounds of the English language! I can also assist with exam preparation, such as IELTS. I can’t wait to hear about your own loves, likes, and dislikes!
