While subject knowledge is essential, I believe the most important things a tutor provides are deeper. First and foremost, it's building the student's confidence and creating a safe space for them to make mistakes.
Secondly, it's the ability to diagnose the specific root cause of a student's struggle, rather than just treating the symptoms on that night's homework.
Finally, and ultimately, it's about empowering them with the skills to become an independent learner. My job isn't just to give them answers; it's to teach them how to find the answers themselves through problem-solving strategies and critical thinking. This combination of emotional support, targeted diagnosis, and skill-building is what creates lasting academic improvement
