About Ira
Hi! I’m Ira, an experienced art student and passionate tutor with years of hands-on experience in drawing and painting. I’ve been learning art since the 5th grade, studied it through high school, and now pursue it as a minor at university. I’ve taught art to underprivileged children in Delhi’s slums, work as a private art tutor, and love helping others discover their creative voice. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, I’m here to guide you with patience, positivity, and personalized support. My lessons are structured but flexible, designed to build skill while keeping creativity at the heart of the process. I teach both in-person (in Edmonton’s Strathcona region) and online, so no matter where you are, I’m excited to help you grow as an artist!

My Teaching Approach As an artist who has studied art since the 5th grade and currently pursues it as a university minor, I bring both passion and structure to every lesson. My teaching style is personalized, patient, and hands-on, focused on helping students gain confidence in their creative abilities. Teaching Methodology & Techniques I start by helping students master the basics—understanding shapes, practicing strokes, and developing control over lines. I introduce essential tools and techniques, ensuring they can confidently create their own artwork. For beginners, I use visual references and step-by-step demonstrations. For more advanced learners, I guide them through observational studies and creative exploration. A Typical Lesson Plan Warm-Up: Short sketching or line practice to loosen up Technique Focus: Introduction to a skill (e.g., shading, perspective, color theory) Guided Activity: Step-by-step drawing or painting practice based on the day’s focus Personal Project Time: Students work on a piece with my feedback and guidance Wrap-Up: Discussion and reflection on progress, plus tips for improvement What Sets Me Apart I have years of experience teaching art to both children and adults, including underprivileged communities in India. I prioritize patience and individual attention, adapting lessons to different learning speeds. My approach blends technical training with creative freedom, encouraging students to express their unique artistic voice. Who My Lessons Are For Children who want a fun, structured introduction to drawing and painting Teens and adults looking to improve their artistic skills or build a portfolio Beginners who need step-by-step guidance Intermediate learners who want to expand their technique or experiment with style Whether online or in-person in the Edmonton Strathcona region, I aim to make every session inspiring, educational, and creatively fulfilling.

I had the pleasure of learning with Ira over several months, and I can say without hesitation that she is one of the most gifted and dedicated art teachers I have ever encountered. From our very first session, it was clear that Ira doesn't just teach art, she genuinely inspires a love for it.
What sets Ira apart is her remarkable ability to meet students exactly where they are. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or looking to refine an existing skill, she tailors every lesson with patience, creativity, and a keen eye for each student's unique style. She never imposes a single "right" way to create, instead she nurtures your individual voice and helps you grow it with confidence.
I remember one session where I was completely stuck on a watercolour piece. Frustrated and ready to give up. Ira sat with me, calmly broke down the techniques I was struggling with, and by the end of the lesson I had created something I was genuinely proud of.
If you are looking for an art tutor who is warm, knowledgeable, endlessly encouraging, and truly passionate about helping you unlock your creative potential, she is the one. Any student lucky enough to learn from her is in wonderful hands.See more recommendations
