About Rebecca
I spent six and a half years in university studying linguistics to postgraduate level. I'm a two-time linguistics scholarship winner and I hold two English teaching qualifications along with 4 years experience teaching national 5, Higher English, and the key stages.

I have a relaxed and flexible approach to teaching, I believe in making students feel at ease and in cultivating a positive teacher-student relationship in order to foster a love of learning in my students. I achieve this through praise and encouragement, by transitioning my students to become more independent and take ownership of their own learning, ultimately becoming masters of their subjects.
In my classroom it is okay to make mistakes, because this is how we learn. In fact, it is a critical part of the reflective learning process. I like to put aspects of my own personality into my lessons, sharing occasional relevant anecdotes or making references to pop culture and incorporating the interests of the students into the materials I choose and/or design for the lessons.
By building a positive relationship with my students and encouraging a love of learning I have been able advance students from bottom set English classes to the highest set and I have helped numerous students achieve A grades for National 5 and Higher English including those who initially detested English and one severely dyslexic student who, when we first began our classes together, did not know how to or what a paragraph was.
I am passionate about English, I spent six and a half years studying Linguistics and English Language to PhD level at Bangor and Edinburgh University. I have found that in my tutoring sessions my enthusiasm is infectious and that my expertise and experience inspires confidence in students.
