About Sofya
Hello, I am Sofia!
It is with great pleasure I welcome you to my page for drawing classes.
My passion is in teaching art and securing students with lifelong skills, confidence and opening a curiosity.
I believe everyone can achieve a precious drawing, create a meaningful sculpture and a moment that will allow you to have a deeper connection with yourself.
I completed a BA in Printmaking in Dublin with an incredible class with whom we formed a collective.
I have co-facilitated over 50+ events, workshops and exhibitions between 2013-2021 whilst sustaining my own practice.
20 years ago when I came to a portfolio class, I thought it will be a place where the tutor will find out that I can't draw. The exercises, classes and many hours of my hard work built a strong foundation of understanding how to draw.
I look forward to spending time teaching online.

About the lesson

Class lasts 1 hour covering exercises and any questions or topics you wish to explore or you have an option to do a package session. Since my graduation from BA in Printmaking, Fine Art, National College of Art & Design Dublin, I have delivered workshops and completed numerous projects. All my classes integrate 2 essential exercises that will improve and elevate your drawing skills.
1. Drawing from a photograph. This is a great opportunity to stay safe with scale yet get a sense of space. It's an inspiring exercise how images hold something of the maker.
2. Observational drawing. This exercise loosens the hand, as you actively observe the object and get a 'feel' for it. This is so simple as you follow the lines of the object and the more you practise, the more fun the images become.
3. Fantasy drawing can be a follow-up class or something you can complete on your own with more confidence after the exercises above.
During the class I will also: Ask you questions about your methods, materials, how you begin a drawing and give you feedback where you can improve. In teaching, it's my favourite part of the job to see the improvement, students getting skills of the class and inspiration.
These are tailored to beginners and intermediate levels.
EXAM PREP: For portfolio and school students I can guide you how to get started on your project. I have 14 years of experience on creating projects, starting really small to facilitating drawing classes in National Gallery. Projects can become really exciting and a discovery for yourself of your own journey as I will guide you to explore various approaches.
