About Cate
I am passionate about helping students positively engage with their work and achieve high results! The classroom tends to be a highly-competitive and daunting environment, so my mission is to mitigate this by focusing on the student's distinctive weak areas, as class lessons veer towards a generalised education.
I loved my high school experience! With the help of a few tutors, it made the long journey a lot more manageable. I particularly struggled with issues of anxiety in exam situations, however, I learned to tackle this by mastering time management and acquainting myself with exam procedures.
Studying prelim biology came natural to me! I enjoyed learning about our bodies on a cellular scale, and ecosystem dynamics. Biology is a subject that requires sufficient external research and clarification, exceeding the bounds of the curriculum. However, with a good work ethic and dedication, I quickly discovered the 'hacks' to achieving excellent marks! Doing so made biology much more manageable.
Here are some comments from my great biology teacher:
"Catherine is a cooperative, keen and mature student. She has worked well all semester and has made solid progress in this subject."

I understand that every student has distinct learning techniques that personally work for them. I will shape my lessons to satisfy your child's needs! For example, suppose they need guidance with formulating a robust legal response. In that case, I will focus on familiarising them with highly modal legal terminology, explore concepts in-depth, research relevant case studies and find reliable statistics!
My Lessons Generally Entail:
- a refresher of previous lesson content (multiple choice, short answer questions)
- identifying the student's more concrete and weaker areas
- deconstructing dense content to make it more digestible
- clarifying any questions
- researching case studies relevant to the concept that they can refer to in their exams and assessments
- step-by-step assistance when tacking questions (e.g. I will work on the same question they're attempting and compare points)
- concluding with a short quiz or short response to solidify the student's knowledge
With my help, the student will...
- have a well-built and practical foundation that is malleable when tackling any question
- critical science skills used to decipher multiple choice and respond effectively to short-answers
- be confident in their ability to respond to unseen questions and stimuli

- My Resources:
I have withheld all my worksheets, exam papers (with feedback and marking annotations), flashcards, self-made in-depth notes and simplified notes that I am more than happy to share! I will print questions, mock exams and worksheets for the student as well.
- Duties Outside of Lesson Time:
I am more than happy to mark the students work, guide them through assessments - with reference to my own, provide work, respond to any questions via email and of course, structure future lessons.
____________________
I strongly encourage at least 1 hour of lesson time - purely for concentration purposes - however, am flexible!
I have just completed my High School Certificate this September, and am keen to teach others! Between 2017 and 2022, I tutored 13 students of both primary and high school levels, and am pleased to see them achieve high band results!
I am notably adept in HSC exam preparation, sifting through high-quality case studies and statistics - relevant to the syllabus issue, fortifying a solid vocabulary of science terminology, and deconstructing dense concepts to be more digestible.

Catherine has been a remarkable tutor for our daughter. Catherine immediately built rapport and identified ways to work best with her. Catherine built our daughter’s confidence and the results were evident as she progressed through to higher grades and even awards! I would highly reccomend Catherine as a tutor.
She is a open and helpful tutor packed with great recourses and topics to learn about. I was originally not sure how helpful I would find this tutoring program, but throughout this term I can visually see a difference and a change in my confidence. This is all thanks to Catherine.

Cate is a super friendly and kind person, who makes revision a lot more manageable, especially with exam preparations. She links complex concepts much more understandable by elaborating, and relating it to everyday concepts.
