About Hailey
I’m an experienced Adelaide tutor specialising in English and Economics, with more than 14 years of experience teaching, tutoring, editing and supporting students from primary school through to university level. I have extensive experience helping students develop stronger writing, analytical and critical-thinking skills, improve their grades, prepare for SACE assessments and examinations, and build the confidence to become more independent learners.
My particular strength is English. I have taught English across Years 1–12, including SACE English, scholarship preparation, essay writing, textual analysis, creative and persuasive writing, reading comprehension, grammar and academic writing. My background as a professional writer, journalist, editor and proofreader means that I bring an unusually strong understanding of what makes writing clear, sophisticated, persuasive and engaging. I can help students not only understand what they need to write, but also develop the vocabulary, structure, expression and analytical skills to write at a much higher level.
I also specialise in Economics and enjoy helping students understand complex concepts, apply economic theory to real-world examples, develop strong written responses and prepare effectively for assessments and examinations.
In addition to English, English Literature and Economics, I can support students in Biology, Business Studies, Communication, Creative Writing, EAL, Media Studies, Nutrition, Physical Education, Health Studies, Journalism, Politics, Modern History, Ancient Studies, Legal Studies, Psychology, Tourism, Society and Culture, Geography, Philosophy and Women’s Studies, as well as general academic writing, reading, essay development and study skills.
A strong academic background
I attended Immanuel College on a full academic scholarship and graduated as dux with an ATAR of 99.5 before completing a Bachelor of Economics and Social Science with First Class Honours at the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Psychological Science at the University of Adelaide.
My combination of academic study across the humanities, social sciences and psychology, together with more than two decades working professionally with written language, gives me a particularly broad academic perspective. I understand that different subjects require different ways of thinking and writing, and I teach students how to adapt their approach accordingly.
More than a tutor
Alongside tutoring, I have worked professionally as a copywriter, journalist, editor, managing editor and copy team leader, producing and refining written material for Australian and international audiences. I have also spent more than a decade tutoring English to students from primary school through postgraduate level, including reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, textual analysis and academic communication.
This professional writing and editing experience is particularly valuable for students who want to move beyond simply "getting the answer right" and learn how to express sophisticated ideas clearly and effectively.

My approach to tutoring
I believe the best tutoring combines high expectations with genuine encouragement. Students learn most effectively when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves.
My lessons are structured and purposeful, but I adapt my approach to the individual student. Some students need help mastering fundamental skills; others need extension, more sophisticated analytical techniques or a greater challenge. I have experience adapting lessons and resources for students with different learning styles and supporting students with diverse learning needs.
My goal is not simply to help a student complete their next assignment. I want students to develop the skills, confidence and independence that will continue to benefit them throughout their education.
I offer one-on-one and group tutoring, both online and in person across Adelaide, with weekday and weekend availability.
Whether a student needs help catching up, wants to improve their grades, is preparing for SACE assessments, or is aiming for a high-achievement or scholarship pathway, I provide structured, individualised support designed around their particular goals.
If you're looking for a tutor who combines extensive teaching experience, strong academic credentials and professional expertise in writing and communication, I'd be very happy to help.

Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
I have used Hailey to help me with my work many times. She has put together resumes and edited university papers for me. I am dyslexic and Hailey was intuitive to my needs and what I was trying to convey in my work.
After my studies I was at a job interview and the first thing said to me was a compliment on my resume. I got that job.
Hailey took time to work with me to reach my goals. She pointing me in different directions when I was stuck, helping me understand concepts that I had difficulty with, and encouraging me when I was on the right track.
Would highly recommend Hailey and will be using her services again.Hal is honestly a dream to work with. Quite possibly the smartest person you’ll ever meet, and is very open to sharing her knowledge.
She is patient, kind, and breaks things down incredibly well - doing all she can for you to succeed.
There’s too many good things to say for one review. Hal is the best, 1000%See more recommendations
