About Helena
I am a second-year English Literature student at the University of Warwick with a particular interest in Medieval and Renaissance Literature.
I offer lessons in English Literature and English Language to students up to GCSE level.
Outside of tutoring, I am currently delivering weekly gothic literature workshops to year 8-11 students, with peers from my department. There is an emphasis on teaching the key features of the genre with the aim of the students ultimately drafting their own creative writing piece at the end of the project.
I also have previous experience of mentoring year 7s 1:1 in reading and comprehension. Through working with the year 7s I was able to improve their confidence and ability in reading aloud as well as their comprehension of the text, I enabled struggling readers to begin to view Literature as something accessible and incredibly enjoyable to them.
I am also very passionate about the positive mental health of the young people I work with. Prior to university, I volunteered as a peer mentor and a MIND mentor, providing pastoral support to younger pupils focusing on improving mental health within the school community, following training sessions from Mind Buckinghamshire.
In the summer before starting my first year at Warwick I volunteered as a classroom assistant at an SEN secondary school, so I have some experience working with students with additional needs.

I base my classes on identifying an individual's prior understanding of the topic that we can build on as well as the areas of difficulty to focus the majority of our time. I also try to make my lessons creative, interactive and enjoyable for the student as I believe we learn best when we are happy, relaxed and engaged. Setting goals and celebrating achievements are also central to how I encourage productivity and success in my students.
