I recently graduated with my masters, and during my two years of study, I taught "Interpretation of Literature". The course focused on developing students critical reading and essay writing skills. I created the course syllabi, designed lesson plans, and graded students' work.

My teaching philosophy aims to get students collaborating with me and (if applicable) their peers. By giving students a voice, they are able to gain crucial critical thinking skills needed for reading and interpreting literature. Equally important to critical thinking is confidence. By showing students their voice is valuable, they are able build the confidence needed to write effectively. In an evaluation, one of my students wrote, “[Shelby] is open to what everyone offers to the conversation and creates a judgment free environment.”
