About Assel
I’m an engineer with a master’s degree in materials engineering (Politecnico di Torino) and two bachelor’s degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. I studied on a Shanghai Government Scholarship and was recognized as an outstanding international student.
Math has been at the center of my studies for years. I scored 800 on both SAT Math and SAT Math Level 2, and at SJTU I was a teaching assistant for Calculus 3 and a writing consultant at the university’s Writing Center, working with students one-on-one.
I grew up in Kazakhstan and have studied in China, the United States, France and Italy, so I’m comfortable working with students from different backgrounds. I teach in English and Russian.

I’m an engineering graduate (aerospace and mechanical engineering) and a former Calculus teaching assistant. I scored 800 in SAT Math and 800 in SAT Math Level 2, so I know both the material and the exam from the inside.
My approach is to find out where you get stuck and rebuild from that point, not repeat what you already know. I worked one-on-one with students, and I teach this way: patient, step by step, and focused on why a method works so you can solve problems you haven’t seen before.
A typical lesson: a quick review of the last session, new concept explained with worked examples, then practice problems that you solve while I guide, and a short summary with homework.
Lessons are online, in English or Russian, for school math, SAT Math and university math.
