About Tess
I have my Bachelor's in Special Education and Psychology, as well as my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, which allowed me to gain a variety of experiences with individualizing lessons based on student strengths and needs.
I have experience working with students in special education and emotional/behavioral support classrooms as the lead teacher. I also have experience working with students in small groups or individual sessions through pull-out services for general education classrooms.

I teach literacy using the Orton-Gillingham Approach with multi-sensory lessons using my own materials. Depending on the level the student is at, I work on phonological/phonemic awareness, letter recognition/formation, decoding/encoding, oral reading fluency, spelling, and comprehension. These lessons incorporate all of these aspects, while focusing on the topics the student needs support with in sequential order. These lessons are appropriate for students in Kindergarten through middle school. I also have experience implementing this approach for multi-lingual learners.
I also have experience teaching Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry) and Physical Science for middle and high school students. These lessons include an explicit instruction approach with scaffolded lessons based on the needs of the student to increase confidence in the topics they learn.
