About Katelynn
Hello, my name is Katelynn, and I am a passionate and patient tutor with experience mentoring young learners. Based on my work with students from 2nd to 5th grade, I am skilled at creating clear, organized, and engaging lesson plans. My approach is rooted in strong communication and a commitment to helping students grasp challenging concepts. I am adept at tailoring my teaching to each individual's needs, providing the focused attention necessary for them to thrive academically and build their confidence. I also have 4 little siblings who were all homeschooled along with me, so I have a lot of experience in helping teach and different views on lesson plans.

I was a reading tutor through Read USA for 6 months, I have a strong foundation in learning and teaching because of this. I am also going into education for college second semester. A typical lesson will look something like: I like to start with a quick warm-up, spending about five minutes reviewing things like sight words or phonics sounds from our last session. Then, I move into explicit instruction, where I introduce a new concept—maybe a new sound pattern or a reading strategy like finding the main idea. This usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes. After that, we dive into guided practice for 15 to 20 minutes, where the student and I read a book together, applying the new skill with me offering real-time feedback and support. The session then shifts to independent practice for about 10 minutes, giving the student a chance to read a short passage or complete an activity on their own to show what they’ve learned. Finally, we wrap up in the last five minutes, where we quickly review what we covered and decide what to focus on next time.
